| Dr.
Debbie Marks graduated Magna cum laude and class
valedictorian from the University of the Philippines
in 2002. She has then served as the national
veterinarian for the Republic of Palau for one year.
She also attended Iowa State University in Ames,
Iowa for one year where she completed her U.S.
accreditation program. She is a member of Phi Kappa
Phi and Remote Access Veterinary Services
(University of Tennessee). Remote Access Veterinary
Services provides free spay and neuter clinics to
people in developing countries.
She is also a founding
member of PAWS (Palau Animal Welfare Society) which
established low cost vaccination and spay and neuter
services in the Republic of Palau. Her special
interests include wellness and geriatric care,
internal medicine and infectious disease.
Dr.
Marks
and her husband Steve, an attorney has been married
for 20 years. Their children include Spencer who is
an accountant for the State of Montana, Sandy,
a mixed breed dog from the Philippines, and Keu a
sulfur crested cockatoo from Palau. Dr.
Marks
and Her husband decided to relocate to southwest
Florida after visiting and falling in love with the
people and the climate. |

Brett Beckman, DVM is a Veterinary
Dentist in
Atlanta, Georgia &
Punta
Gorda &
Orlando,
Florida. He is a 1987 graduate of
Mississippi State University. His
veterinary career started in Memphis
where he practiced for 12 years. During
that time he pursued advanced education
in emergency and critical care medicine
and surgery, ophthalmology and oral
surgery. For the last 15 years he has
studied under human and
veterinary specialists throughout the
United States and Canada.
He is president of the
American Veterinary
Dental Society.
Dr
Beckman is one of 40 veterinarians in
the world who have
completed extensive training to
become regarded as both a Fellow in the
Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, a Diplomate in the
American Veterinary
Dental College and the
American Academy of Pain Management.
He has
published numerous peer-reviewed
articles in the field of veterinary
dentistry, oral surgery and pain
management.
He has been honored as a
candidate for the American Veterinary
Medical Association/Delta Society
national award for Veterinarian of the
Year for 2004. In
2007 Dr. Beckman became a diplomate in the
American Academy of
Pain Management. and was honored as
Alumnus of the Year by the Mississippi
State University College of Veterinary
Medicine.
He owns and operates a companion animal
and referral dentistry and oral surgery practice in Punta Gorda,
Florida. Dr. Beckman also accepts
dentistry cases at Affiliated Veterinary
Specialists in Orlando, Florida and
Atlanta, Georgia. He lectures throughout
the United States on topics related to
dentistry and pain management . Dr. Beckman is
the official veterinarian for Gulf Coast
Pet Partners, a non-profit organization
that provides pet visitations to nursing
homes, hospitals and mental health
facilities.
In
March of 2005 the
Veterinary Dental
Education Center center opened its doors
here in Punta Gorda. It is a state of
the art training facility, one of only a
few in the country, dedicated
to advancing the educational needs
of veterinarians and veterinary
technicians around the world in the
field of dentistry and oral surgery.
He and Lecia, his
wife of 27 years, and their 25 year old
daughter Lauren enjoy gardening,
cooking, nature photography, scuba
diving and golf.
